When the landscape becomes creation
At Terrabona, art begins long before entering a gallery. It begins with the architecture, the landscape and the way each space enters into dialogue with the valley.
Wine, architecture, painting, craftsmanship, music and gastronomy are different ways of telling the same story: the story of Madeira, its natural heritage and the people who interpret it.
Here, art is not simply observed. It is experienced, shared and created.
ARCHITECTURE IN HARMONY WITH NATURE
Designed by architects Nuno Vidigal and Teresa Goes Ferreira, Terrabona’s minimalist architecture was conceived to remain discreet and integrated into its natural surroundings.
The villas follow the morphology of the land, respect the agricultural terraces and encourage a continuous connection between the interiors and the landscape.
The landscape design was conceived by Maria and Marco in close harmony with the valley. The selection of species and planting were developed with the support of two biologists and their team, seeking to preserve biodiversity and introduce plants, fruit trees and aromatic herbs adapted to the identity and natural conditions of the location.
During the next phases of the project, this contemporary language will be complemented by the restoration of existing buildings, preserving elements, techniques and memories of the traditional Madeiran architecture of our ancestors.

ART LIVES AT TERRABONA
Each villa and our Welcome Space feature works by artists such as Teresa Gonçalves Lobo and Tony Kitchell, creating different encounters between artistic expression, the intimacy of each space and the surrounding nature.
Craftsmanship is equally part of Terrabona’s identity. The wicker pieces by Wicker.it celebrate a craft deeply connected to local history, while our new collaboration with Bordal honours the tradition of Madeiran embroidery.
Other pieces, created by independent and sometimes unnamed artisans, remind us that cultural heritage also lives through hands, materials and knowledge passed down across generations.
More than decoration, these works bring memory, identity and a human connection to Madeira’s culture into each space.

CREATE AT YOUR OWN RHYTHM
At Terrabona, our guests are also invited to create.
Painting and drawing materials are available upon request. You may choose your own place of inspiration: among the vineyards, in the gardens or in the privacy of your villa, perhaps while enjoying a glass of Terrabona wine.
Painting or drawing thus becomes another form of wellbeing: a creative pause where silence, nature and the senses come together.
If you wish, your creation may also become part of the story of our wines. Every year, guests will be invited to submit their artwork as a proposal for the label of the next Terrabona Guest Collection.
One or more works will be selected by Maria, Marco and our design team to give a unique identity to a limited-edition Terrabona wine. The selected creators will be acknowledged in the respective edition, receive a personalised bottle and become part of Terrabona’s creative story.

ART SERVED AT THE TABLE
At Terrabona, gastronomy is also an art form and a way of preserving memory.
The recipes of Maria and Marco’s mothers and grandmothers are the starting point for a cuisine shaped by affection, family flavours and stories shared around the table. Reinterpreted through a contemporary perspective, they retain their essence and origins while celebrating seasonal ingredients, local produce and the very best Madeira has to offer.
Each dish seeks to create a dialogue with Terrabona’s wines and the landscape from which they originate. From presentation and aromas to textures and wine pairing, cooking becomes a form of creation—and serving, a way of welcoming.
This expression comes to life through experiences such as the Terrabona Winemaker’s Table, our intimate dinners and future encounters bringing together wine, gastronomy, art and music.

ENCOUNTERS BETWEEN ART, WINE AND PEOPLE
Terrabona seeks to be a place of encounter and expression, where art unfolds naturally and intimately.
This vision has already begun to take shape through initiatives such as the Art & Wine Moment, held in July 2026 at Galeria Tratuário in Funchal: a relaxed encounter bringing together art, people and two new expressions of Terrabona wine.
At the property, music already emerges spontaneously during some of our dinners, when guests who play the guitar are invited to share their talent around the table. In the future, the piano planned for our new restaurant space will open new possibilities for encounters between wine, gastronomy and music.
As the project develops, we intend to welcome exhibitions, encounters with artists and artisans, creative workshops, artist residencies, open-air art, intimate concerts and other experiences bringing together different forms of expression.
Always on a small scale, each initiative will be designed to respect the tranquillity of the valley and create a close relationship between artists, guests and the local community.
A STORY STILL BEING CREATED
Art & Wine is a living project, intended to grow with the people who pass through Terrabona.
Some leave behind an artwork. Others, a song, a drawing, a recipe, a conversation or a memory. Each becomes part of a story that is continually being created.
The landscape inspires. Memory nourishes. Wine brings us together. Art remains.
